With one year now under her belt, PE/Health Teacher Ms. Brigid Shehan has accepted the girls' varsity volleyball head coach position for the 2017 season. The acceptance comes just one season after her stint as the assistant varsity and head JV coach in 2016. With the addition of Coach Shehan to the volleyball program last season, CCS won a TCISL championship over West-Mont Christian Academy, 3-1, in their first ever championship appearance.
Coach Shehan posts a great volleyball resume. Shehan was recognized as an NCAA All-American, First Team All-Conference, and MVP in two different years at Cairn University. She also holds an all-time school record for career digs and served as Cairn’s team captain. Shehan has coached at Garnet Valley and currently runs a regional U15 club team for Liberty Belles Volleyball.
Collegium's Athletic Director shared, "I believe Coach (Shehan) will bring a lot of experience and positive energy to a fast growing program. I'm excited to see what she can do with the young talent we have moving forward."
The returning players all speak very highly of the new head coach. The girls are excited about her positive energy and passion for teaching the sport. Shehan will look to continue the program's successes with many returning players and some key players moving up to the freshman class.
The season is just about a month away! The team will travel to OJ Roberts on Sept. 1st at 10:00am to open up their season. Collegium expects to see the Cougar Den come out and fill the stands for their home opener on Thursday, September 7th with a JV/V double header after school.
